In a recent independent study of Apparel's readers, a resounding 52 percent said that PLM was one of their top five investment priorities over the next 12 months.

Life in the fashion world simply isn't getting any easier, is it? If you feel like things are getting tougher and you have less time to get everything done, you're not alone.

Aberdeen Group's January 2008 benchmark report, "PLM for the Fashion, Apparel, and Footwear Industries: Enabling Speed and Responsiveness, Delivering Higher Profitability," finds that the fashion, apparel, and footwear industry faces intense pressure from constant change orders, and complex global supply chains while under demanding deadlines. Not only does the report identify the problems in the fashion industry, it has some answers too.

Where do we begin to find those answers? By identifying those that are successful and seeing what they are doing. For the "PLM for the Fashion, Apparel, and Footwear Industries" study, Aberdeen measured five key performance criteria (the metrics that drive product profitability) to identify "best-in-class" performance in delivering apparel and footwear products.
